UPDATE: Patricia “Pat” Lea Jones, aged 99, has passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, while under hospice care at Edgewater Assisted Living in West Des Moines, Iowa. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Born in Creston, Iowa in December 1925, Pat lived a life rich in love and community, having resided in several Iowa towns including Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Spirit Lake, Marion, and Urbandale. She was the beloved wife of Paul R. (Bob) Jones, who preceded her in death.

Pat is survived by her brother, Ben Cochrane, and her two daughters, Kathryn (formerly Wehling) Troup and Susan Grant (married to David Grant). She also leaves behind a grandson, Jeff Wehling (and his wife Lori), a granddaughter, Deborah Shoemaker (married to Gipson), and four great-grandchildren: Ethan and Emily Wehling, as well as Gipson and Jake Shoemaker.

Pat was cherished for her kindness, infectious humor, and unwavering support for her family. She found joy in simple pleasures such as cooking, baking, gardening, and completing jigsaw puzzles. Her legacy is marked by compassion, laughter, and treasured family recipes that will be passed down through generations.

Arrangements are being handled by Des Moines Cremation. A memorial tree can be planted in her honor at the Tree Store, celebrating the life of a woman whose warmth and love will be deeply missed.

This news comes as a reminder of the incredible impact one life can have on others, and the cherished memories that endure. Pat’s legacy of kindness and joy will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her.
