The Paley Museum in New York City has announced a new initiative allowing free admission for Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cardholders, in collaboration with the NYC Department of Social Services. This program aims to enhance access to the museum’s rich offerings, which include exhibitions and screenings that highlight over a century of television and radio history.
This initiative coincides with the museum’s 50th anniversary and the unveiling of its newly renovated theaters and public spaces. Families can explore a diverse range of media-related exhibits and engage with special screenings, along with an extensive library that showcases the evolution of media. Additionally, immersive experiences like “45 Years of PAC-MAN” and “Outwit, Outplay, Outlast: Celebrating 50 Seasons of Survivor” are available through May 31, 2024.
Molly Wasow Park, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Social Services, emphasized the importance of cultural access, stating, “New York City is replete with incredible cultural and educational institutions like the Paley Museum, and we believe that a household’s income or background should never be a barrier to enjoying these resources.” This partnership aims to expand access for the approximately 1.4 million New Yorkers who are EBT cardholders.
Under this new program, EBT cardholders can bring up to eight guests for free admission. This includes access to the museum’s award-winning PaleyGX gaming and virtual reality studio, educational classes, Family Days, and daily screenings. Furthermore, the first 1,400 EBT cardholders who enroll will receive a Paley Family Membership, valued at $125, which offers year-round access to special events and discounts.
Maureen J. Reidy, President & CEO of The Paley Center for Media, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “As we celebrate our historic 50th anniversary and our newly renovated Museum, we are thrilled to partner with the New York City Department of Social Services to ensure that 1.4 million New Yorkers have the opportunity to experience Paley’s best-in-class programs.”
The museum aims to engage families with various upcoming events, including World Cup watch parties available in both English and Spanish, live podcast recordings, and showcases for songwriters and artists.
Located at 25 West 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan, The Paley Center for Media is accessible via public transport. Regular operating hours are from Wednesday to Sunday, 12:00 to 18:00, with standard admission prices starting at $20 for adults, while children under 12 can enter for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
