UPDATE: In a stunning display of talent, Tori Vlcek, a sophomore at Oswego East, emerged as a key player in the team’s season opener against Waubonsie Valley on August 27, 2025. The Wolves secured a decisive victory with set scores of 25-15 and 25-23, and Vlcek’s performance proved pivotal right from the start.
Vlcek, who made an immediate impact with all four of her kills in the first game, showcased why Coach Dina Beamon had high hopes for her this season. “I saw something special in her last year,” Beamon stated. “I thought she could be the missing piece to elevate our team.”
Oswego East jumped to an early lead, building an eight-point advantage thanks to Vlcek’s energy and skill. The team demonstrated strong synergy, with Mia Stanley serving a remarkable eight aces and fellow teammates Alison Coy and Gia Sylvestre each contributing four kills.
“I’m really excited to be on varsity this year,” said Vlcek. “This is a great group of girls, and I’m ready to keep working with them.” Her enthusiasm is palpable, as she reflects on her journey from being called up to varsity late last season to earning her starting position now.
The Wolves’ victory is not just significant for this game; it highlights the growth of a team that returns seven varsity players, including four starters. The mix of experience and fresh talent is proving to be a winning formula. “I’ve been working with these girls for a while, and I expected us to perform well,” Beamon added.
As the match progressed, Waubonsie Valley struggled to close the gap, despite efforts from Addilyn Candrian, who led her team with four kills. The Warriors fell to 0-2 for the season, while Oswego East celebrated their successful start at 1-0.
The chemistry between Vlcek and her teammates is already apparent. “She’s a great player who brings a lot of great ideas,” said Stanley, emphasizing how Vlcek’s experience with high-level volleyball teams has enriched the Wolves’ strategy.
The emotional and competitive atmosphere was palpable as Oswego East celebrated their well-deserved victory. “She’s shown she’s not intimidated,” Beamon noted about Vlcek. “She’s hungry for success, and that’s exactly what we need.”
