The Orangeburg community is set to participate in a significant event aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. On September 27, 2023, the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk will take place at the Edisto Memorial Gardens, located at 200 Riverside Drive SW in Orangeburg. The event is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and promises to unite participants in a collective effort to combat breast cancer.

This fundraiser walk serves as a celebration of courage and hope, drawing attention to the ongoing fight against breast cancer. Participants can register for free or contribute donations through the website MakingStridesWalk.org/orangeburgcosc. The funds raised will support vital research, as well as programs and services provided by the American Cancer Society.

The event will feature notable guests, including Simona Lazinsk, Mrs. Florida International 2023, who is also an author, philanthropist, life coach, and cancer survivor. Alongside her will be Denine Rochelle Cooper, a resident of Orangeburg, who has achieved recognition as an actress, author, educator, cosmetologist, and cancer survivor. Another special guest is Gallienne Nabila Hack, recently crowned Miss South Carolina USA 2025, who will represent the state at the upcoming Miss USA pageant.

Participants will be organized into teams, each raising funds to help the American Cancer Society’s mission to end breast cancer. This initiative not only provides financial support but also offers essential resources for patients, survivors, and their families. A 24/7 helpline, available at 1-800-227-2345, is in place to offer assistance and information to those affected by breast cancer.

The Making Strides movement has a proven track record of raising lifesaving funds that support those impacted by breast cancer, including patients, survivors, and caregivers. By participating in this walk, the Orangeburg community contributes to a larger nationwide effort to improve outcomes and offer hope to countless individuals facing this disease.
