The Opera browsers now features a new, free browser AI

Opera has announced a significant partnership with Google to integrate the advanced Gemini AI technology into its suite of web browsers. This new feature, called Opera AI, will replace the previously utilized Aria, marking a notable evolution in Opera’s approach to in-browser artificial intelligence.

Per Wetterdal, Executive Vice President at Opera, emphasized the transformative impact of AI on online interactions. He stated, “AI is reshaping how people interact with the web, and the browser is the natural entry point for those experiences.” This collaboration aims to enhance user engagement by providing native search and AI capabilities directly within the Opera One and Opera GX browsers.

The integration of Gemini will also benefit users of the Opera Neon browser, who have already begun accessing the Gemini 3 Pro model. The new Opera AI side panel allows users to interact with online content more effectively. Users can ask questions, conduct in-depth research, receive summaries, and seamlessly compare different tabs, all within their browsing experience.

Opera AI is designed to optimize user experience with features such as voice input and output. The system has been redesigned for speed, utilizing a new architecture that was initially developed for the agentic Opera Neon browser. This enhancement positions the browser as a pivotal interface for AI technologies.

Opera highlighted the advantages of using a browser for AI interactions, noting, “Unlike a standalone chat interface, the browser has access to real-time context such as a user’s open tabs, page content, and browsing flows.” This context allows for more relevant assistance and supports users in completing tasks directly while browsing.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, Opera’s partnership with Google represents a forward-thinking approach to integrating AI within everyday web experiences. Users can expect these features to be rolled out in the coming months, providing a significant upgrade to their browsing interactions.
