UPDATE: Providence Celtics junior guard Olivia Anderson delivered a standout performance during a commanding 71-15 win over Tinley Park in the WJOL Tournament, held at Joliet Junior College on November 19, 2025. Anderson set the tone early, scoring seven points in the first quarter, showcasing her tenacity and skill on the court.

The Celtics (2-0) surged to a quick 15-3 lead, with Anderson finishing the game with nine points, five rebounds, and four steals. Her relentless defense and ability to recover loose balls have made her a key player for the team. “She has that dog mentality,” said Providence coach Eileen Copenhaver. “When you think the big girls are going to come up with the ball, somehow Olivia’s hands are on it.”

Anderson’s impressive performance echoes the teachings of her mother, Katie Anderson, a former player for the Celtics. “She said to work hard every single day,” Anderson reflected. This advice has clearly resonated with her teammates, including junior forward Taylor Healy, who praised Anderson’s feistiness and knack for grabbing rebounds.

The game saw contributions from other key players as well. Landrie Callahan, a transfer from Morris, led the Celtics with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Healy added 12 points. The Celtics displayed their depth with Layken Callahan scoring all of her 10 points in a strong second quarter. Sophomore forward Kennady Kotowski also made her mark, contributing points and rebounds just days after helping the volleyball team secure a third-place finish in the state.

Providence will face Joliet West (1-1) next on Friday at 4 p.m., aiming to advance to the championship game scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Celtics are looking to leverage their new dynamics, with the addition of taller players enhancing their rebounding and defensive strategies.

Anderson, standing at 5-foot-6, continues to defy expectations with her hustle. “I just like going for the ball and getting my hands on it,” she said with a laugh. The team’s transformation, bolstered by their height and skill, has created an exciting new atmosphere. Healy noted, “It’s really been exciting seeing the new dynamic of the team.”

Copenhaver, who is set to be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, also commended Anderson for her improvement and versatility. “She plays strong and now she’s able to hit the 3-pointer a little bit better,” Copenhaver stated. “She is going to help us in a lot of different ways.”

As the Celtics aim for a state trophy this season, fans are eager to see how Anderson and her teammates continue to build on this promising start. With momentum on their side, the upcoming games will be crucial for Providence’s championship aspirations.
