The 2025 Oklahoma State Fair concluded on September 22, marking an end to its 11-day run that significantly bolstered the local economy. Last year’s event generated approximately $89 million in economic benefits for Oklahoma City, and this year’s fair is expected to have a similar impact, thanks in part to new attractions and steady attendance.
Among the highlights of this year’s fair were the impressive enhancements to the OG&E Coliseum. The venue hosted three major events, including nine performances of Disney on Ice, a three-day competition organized by Professional Bull Riders (PBR), and a concert featuring country music star Trace Adkins. The Coliseum, which opened this summer as the first project under the MAPS 4 initiative, is a focal point for entertainment in the area.
Attendance at the fair averaged nearly 900,000 visitors, with around 25% traveling from outside the city. These visitors contributed to a substantial economic influx, not just through fairground activities but also through other expenditures in the city. Last year, hotel bookings during the event totaled approximately 170,000 rooms, leading to nearly $100 million in direct economic activity related to travel expenses.
The impact of the fair extends beyond its duration, as the OKC Fairgrounds serves as a year-round venue for various events, trade shows, and livestock competitions. Annually, it hosts roughly 180 exhibitions, attracting over 2.3 million visitors. This consistent activity positions the fairgrounds as a reliable economic engine for Oklahoma City, promoting tourism and supporting local businesses throughout the year.
The economic success of the Oklahoma State Fair is a testament to its cultural significance and relevance in the community. Kenton Tsoodle, president of the Alliance for Economic Development of Oklahoma City, remarked on the fair’s impact, noting that it not only provides entertainment but also fosters community growth and development.
As the rides and booths are dismantled for another year, the excitement and anticipation for the next Oklahoma State Fair remain high. The event continues to be a source of pride for residents, who revel in the festivities, including the iconic turkey legs and funnel cakes that have become synonymous with the fair experience.
