UPDATE: The highly anticipated Oklahoma Air Fest kicks off today, September 5, at the Canadian County Expo in El Reno. This inaugural event promises an exhilarating showcase of aerial stunts, paramotor pilots, and hot air balloons, drawing an expected 10,000 attendees daily.

Festival founder Carri Lawrence expressed enthusiasm for bringing this unique event to Oklahoma, stating, “We’ve never seen this either.” The Air Fest is designed to highlight adventure sports that are rarely featured in the state, particularly due to its flatlands and strong winds. Lawrence noted the event’s aim to inspire Oklahomans with the thrill of flight.

Throughout the weekend, attendees will enjoy a diverse array of activities, including video gaming tournaments, BMX and skateboarding exhibitions, food trucks, and a Dog Show Extravaganza. Highlighting the festival will be the aerial shows featuring renowned athletes from Costa Rica’s Jaco Sport Fest-FEST Internacional, including Ramón Morillas, a four-time world champion in paramotor flight.

The event runs from September 5 to 7, with spectacular aerial displays scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. Attendees can also look forward to a giant kite show, daily helicopter rides, and hot air balloons soaring across the Oklahoma skyline at sunrise and sunset.

Ticket prices range from $40 for single-day passes to $150 for VIP Day Passes. Lawrence is optimistic about the festival’s success, hoping to establish it as an annual tradition, especially with next year marking the 100-year anniversary of Route 66. She anticipates collaborating with local organizers for an even larger event in 2024.

As the festivities begin, the excitement is palpable, creating a sense of community among attendees eager to witness this first-of-its-kind experience in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Air Fest is not just an event; it is a celebration of adventure, sport, and the spirit of flight that unites people from all walks of life.
