Odell Beckham Jr. has publicly refuted claims of his retirement from the NFL, which originated from a parody social media account. The rumors began circulating on August 12, 2023, when the account @AdamSche1fer, a spoof of ESPN analyst Adam Schefter, falsely reported that the wide receiver was ending his football career.

Beckham, who has played for several teams including the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore Ravens, took to social media to clarify his status. He responded with the emphatic message, “(expletive) ain’t over yet,” indicating his intent to continue playing.

Clarification from Beckham

In a series of posts on X, Beckham urged fans not to believe everything they read online. He stated that he is not retiring and implored his followers to stop spreading misinformation. “Don’t believe everything on the internet,” he wrote, emphasizing his desire to remain active in the league.

Prior to this incident, Beckham had shared on Instagram on August 9, 2023 that he was maintaining his fitness in anticipation of potential opportunities with NFL teams. His commitment to staying in shape reflects his determination to continue his professional career.

Beckham’s NFL Journey

Beckham was drafted by the New York Giants as the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He quickly made a name for himself, breaking rookie receiving records and famously making what is often considered the best catch of all time against the Dallas Cowboys. Over his first three seasons, he consistently posted impressive stats, with over 90 receptions, 1,300 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns each year.

Injuries have been a recurring challenge throughout Beckham’s career. He played only four games in 2017 but made a comeback in 2018, participating in 12 games. In the offseason of 2018, the Giants traded him to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Jabrill Peppers and two draft picks.

After three seasons in Cleveland, Beckham moved to the Los Angeles Rams, where he scored a touchdown in the 2021 Super Bowl, helping the team secure the Lombardi Trophy. Unfortunately, he suffered a significant knee injury that sidelined him for the subsequent season. Most recently, he played for the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins.

Beckham signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in 2024, aiming to form a formidable trio alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. However, his performance was limited, resulting in only nine receptions for 55 yards over nine games before his release in December.

Despite the retirement rumors, Beckham’s proactive approach to his career suggests he remains focused on future opportunities within the NFL. His passion for the game and resilience in the face of challenges continues to resonate with fans and teammates alike.
