Throughout October, The Artists’ Gallery, located at 416 Main St, features the diverse works of three talented artists. Each month, the gallery highlights different artists with special displays in a prominent area near the entrance. The celebration kicks off with a First Friday event on October 3, from 16:30 to 19:30, where visitors can enjoy the art, live music, and refreshments.

Mary Cotner is a watercolor artist known for her unique approach using Yupo paper, a slick synthetic material. Cotner enjoys the “serendipity of how paints and water mingle” on this medium. Her portfolio includes captivating landscapes, wildlife, and still life compositions. Beyond her visual art, Cotner also engages audiences with her musical talents, providing vocals and acoustic guitar performances during the First Friday celebrations, including this month’s event.

Robin Riddle, a veteran photographer, captures the stunning landscapes and wildlife of Colorado. Riddle draws inspiration from the “pure beauty of nature untouched by human influence.” Additionally, she explores the stories hidden within vacant, deteriorating buildings through her photography. A long-time member of the gallery, Riddle’s passion for nature and storytelling shines through her work.

Virginia Ames is an acclaimed beading artist hailing from Pueblo West. Ames describes her creations as “beaded jewelry that comes from the heart….one bead at a time!” Her intricate designs feature necklaces, earrings, and pins that reflect originality and creativity. Ames has been a dedicated member of The Artists’ Gallery for several years, showcasing her unique pieces that often leave a lasting impression on viewers.

Attendees are encouraged to come and enjoy the artistic offerings, live music from Cotner, and refreshments during the opening event. The gallery operates daily from 10:00 to 18:00, inviting art enthusiasts to explore these remarkable works.

In addition to the artistic showcase, the City of Cañon City will host a paper shredding event in November. Paper will be collected at City Hall in the downstairs foyer on the following dates:

November 5 from 11:00 to 13:00
November 6 from 07:30 to 09:30

This event will accept paper only and will not include newspapers or any media such as VHS tapes or floppy disks. The cost is $0.50 per pound, and only cash will be accepted. Collected items will be shredded on November 10.

Art lovers and community members looking to declutter are encouraged to participate in these engaging activities, highlighting the vibrant culture and services available in the area.
