Nissan has unveiled the updated Fairlady Z for 2027, featuring significant enhancements to its styling and mechanical performance. The reveal took place at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, where the company showcased the new design elements and technical improvements aimed at enhancing the driving experience.

The latest model retains the overall silhouette of its predecessor, yet the front bumper has been reworked to present a cleaner, more cohesive appearance. The previous vertical slits have been replaced with a sculpted lower section and a body-colored crossbar that integrates more smoothly with the grille. According to Nissan, these changes are not merely cosmetic; they improve aerodynamics by reducing front lift by 3.3% and drag by 1% compared to the outgoing model.

Exterior and Interior Updates

While the body panels largely remain unchanged, the rear spoiler has been removed, and the corporate badge has been replaced by a minimalist Z emblem. The alloy wheels now feature a new bi-tone finish. A striking addition to the color palette is the new Unryu Green, inspired by the S30’s Grand Prix Green, which, when paired with a tan interior, offers a nostalgic yet modern aesthetic. The Nismo variant maintains its aggressive appearance, including a distinctive body kit with red accents and a black suede-trimmed interior.

Mechanically, the Fairlady Z continues to feature a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, producing 400 hp in standard form and 420 hp in the Nismo version. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a choice of either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Enhanced Performance Features

A notable highlight of the update is the introduction of a manual transmission option for the Nismo variant, a feature long-requested by enthusiasts. This addition comes alongside revised ECU, ignition, and throttle tuning, aimed at improving engine response and enhancing driver engagement.

Despite no significant performance upgrades, the 2027 model has been equipped with new monotube shock absorbers with a larger diameter, enhancing overall ride quality. For the Nismo version, suspension tuning has been refined to balance performance with everyday usability, complemented by stronger brakes derived from the now-retired R35 GT-R.

The updated Fairlady Z will be on display at the Tokyo Auto Salon from January 9-11, 2026. The model is set to launch in Japan during the summer of 2026. While details regarding the US-spec Z have yet to be confirmed, similar updates are anticipated to roll out later this year.
