URGENT UPDATE: New Yorkers are bracing for a Christmas without snow as forecasts reveal a warm and dry holiday ahead. According to AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist John Feerick, this Christmas is likely to continue a trend where the Big Apple has only experienced a white Christmas on six occasions in the past 156 years.

While there is a slight chance of light snowfall early this week, particularly late Monday night into Tuesday morning, it will not be enough to create a festive winter wonderland. Feerick stated, “Even if we were to get a small accumulation, it would melt by the time we reach Christmas.” Temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-40s, making for a pleasant but snowless holiday.

Last year, Central Park boasted an inch of snow on Christmas Day, marking the first white Christmas since 2009. However, the chances of similar conditions this year are slim. The last significant accumulation of snow on Christmas Day in New York City occurred in 2002, when 5 inches blanketed the park. Historically, snow on Christmas Day is a rarity; only six times in the last 156 years has there been over an inch of snowfall on this day.

The record for the most snow on Christmas Day in Central Park remains at 7 inches, set in 1909. As the holiday approaches, many will feel the emotional impact of yet another year without snow, as dreams of a picturesque white Christmas fade into reality.

As we look forward to the festive season, the focus will shift to how families and communities will celebrate Christmas without the traditional snow backdrop. Stay tuned for further updates on weather conditions as we approach the holiday.
