BREAKING: The horror universe of “Talk to Me” is expanding in an unexpected direction! Just announced, a new series based on the acclaimed film will premiere exclusively on Meta headsets, moving beyond the anticipated sequel. This innovative venture will consist of six half-hour episodes, fully shot in 3D, delivering an immersive experience that horror fans won’t want to miss.
According to Variety, this series will draw on the film’s chilling premise—a disembodied hand that possesses anyone daring enough to grasp it. The story follows a group of young travelers searching for the ultimate party on a European island, only to discover the Hand, a supernatural entity more potent than any drug. As they delve deeper, they learn the terrifying consequences of their reckless curiosity.
The creative team behind this Meta and XRTV collaboration features Darren Brandl and Trent Atherton. Brandl, co-founder of XRTV, articulated the unique advantages of “extended reality,” stating, “The promise of XR is this idea that we can now map the story into your own space so you feel like you’re inside it.” He emphasized the genre’s ability to create a palpable sense of fear, making audiences feel as though they are under the influence of the Hand.
While the Philippou brothers—Danny and Michael Philippou—are onboard as executive producers, a fresh creative team is steering this series. The duo gained recognition for their cinematic debut with “Talk to Me,” which was picked up by A24 and became a breakout success.
Despite the announcement for the series, fans are still eagerly awaiting a traditional sequel, “Talk to Me 2.” Earlier this year, the Philippous hinted at ongoing discussions about the follow-up during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “When we submitted ‘Bring Her Back’ to some of the funding places, they were like, ‘What about Talk to Me 2?’” Danny shared. “There was pressure from people,” he added, illustrating the high expectations surrounding the franchise.
Michael echoed the sentiment, explaining, “To go straight into Talk to Me 2 always felt like it would just be capitalizing on hype.” He emphasized the need for time to ensure the sequel tells the right story. Currently, there is no confirmed release date or title for the “Talk to Me” series.
This latest development is particularly significant for fans who have been captivated by the original film’s blend of horror and psychological thrills. The combination of advanced technology and gripping storytelling promises an unparalleled viewing experience, making it a topic of conversation among horror enthusiasts worldwide.
Stay tuned for updates on both the “Talk to Me” series and the forthcoming sequel, as further details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. This expansion of the “Talk to Me” universe is sure to ignite discussions across social media platforms, making it a must-watch for horror aficionados.
