UPDATE: The Monroe Golden Tornadoes continue their winning streak, claiming their seventh consecutive victory with a decisive 60-45 win over Miami Central at the Roundball Classic on January 15, 2024. Meanwhile, the Monroe Lady Nadas solidified their dominance, remaining unbeaten at 10-0 after defeating Jenkins 60-43 in Savannah.

In Leesburg, the Golden Tornadoes took control early, showcasing their strength as they surged ahead from a 4-4 tie. An electrifying alley-oop dunk by Brayden Burns, assisted by Tristen Terry, set the tone for the evening and sparked a commanding lead that they maintained throughout the game. Monroe ended the first quarter up 11-4 and further extended their advantage to 27-16 by halftime.

Head coach Michael Hoffpauir’s strategic rotations played a crucial role in the victory. He confidently utilized his bench, allowing key players like Elijah Rivers, Tristen Terry, and Brayden Burns to rest while ensuring the team stayed competitive. “I felt sure we could close things in the end,” Hoffpauir stated, noting the importance of building trust in his substitutes.

Despite Miami Central’s efforts to close the gap in the second half, Monroe’s defense and timely scoring proved insurmountable. The Golden Tornadoes now hold an impressive record of 8-2 and will face off against Destin, Florida, on Tuesday, January 16, at 7 p.m. in the next round of the Roundball Classic.

Simultaneously, the Lady Nadas in Savannah continued their impressive run, led by Kie’Aundria Acree, who scored 36 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. With contributions from Maleyah Hines and Taylor Mckinzy, the girls showcased a well-rounded performance that kept their perfect season intact.

Both teams’ performances are a testament to Monroe’s basketball program, highlighting their growing momentum and success on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on their upcoming matches as they aim to maintain their winning streaks.
