Mitsubishi has introduced its latest concept vehicle, the Elevance, a quad-motor plug-in hybrid SUV, at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This innovative vehicle features a striking design and advanced technology, showcasing the company’s commitment to electrification and versatile mobility solutions.

The Elevance seats six passengers and boasts a unique capability: it can power a camping trailer using its high-voltage battery. This feature highlights Mitsubishi’s intention to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking eco-friendly travel options.

Advanced Powertrain and Performance

Equipped with four electric motors, the Elevance enhances driving dynamics and stability. Two in-wheel electric motors are located at the front, while two additional motors drive the rear wheels. This setup is designed to improve steering stability and includes Active Yaw Control (AYC) to minimize vehicle sway. The integration of these technologies allows for precise torque distribution to each wheel, enhancing traction and control under various driving conditions.

The powertrain of the Elevance also includes a “large-capacity” traction battery paired with a high-efficiency gasoline engine capable of operating on carbon-neutral fuels. While Mitsubishi refers to the vehicle as a plug-in hybrid, it hints at the possibility of an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configuration, similar to the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer. Specific performance details, including power output and range, remain undisclosed, as the Elevance is not yet ready for mass production.

Interior and Technology Features

The Elevance’s interior features a capsule-like design, prioritizing comfort and functionality. It offers three rows of seating, accommodating up to six passengers. Notably, the front seats can rotate 180 degrees, creating a more inviting atmosphere for passengers. The dashboard is equipped with a full-width display, complemented by an LCD screen integrated into the steering wheel.

In keeping with contemporary automotive trends, Mitsubishi has incorporated artificial intelligence into the Elevance. The AI Co-Driver can assist drivers by suggesting tailored destinations based on their lifestyle, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Mitsubishi also showcased a custom-made camper trailer designed for the Elevance. This trailer includes amenities such as a built-in shower and kitchen, allowing for generator-free adventures powered by the SUV’s high-voltage battery.

While the Elevance concept is still in the developmental stage, it signals Mitsubishi’s ongoing exploration of hybrid and electric technologies. This vehicle could influence the design of future models, potentially impacting the next-generation Outlander or Pajero.
