Austin’s culinary scene is experiencing a shift this week as Michi Ramen announces its relocation and local breweries introduce new community events. The well-known ramen restaurant, which operates three locations across the city, is set to move from its South Lamar pickup spot to a new site in Oak Hill, further southwest. This transition, scheduled to take place after January 30, 2024, comes as the team opted not to renew their lease at the current location due to increased rental costs.

Michi Ramen’s New Chapter

The new address for Michi Ramen will be 6330 W 290 #102, situated in a strip mall off the highway, just before crossing William Cannon Drive. The restaurant’s Instagram announcement indicated that while the timing may not be ideal, the decision to relocate was necessary. The exact reopening date remains uncertain as the new space requires renovations. Important to note, Michi Ramen will continue to operate on a pickup-only basis with the same hours and delivery radius.

In other developments, local hospitality brands have expanded their offerings. Studio Lobos, a new catering and events division, has been launched by Powder Room, Toasty Badger, and Manny’s. This division aims to cater to a variety of events such as weddings, intimate dinners, and brand activations, combining food, cocktails, and event coordination services.

Local Breweries Embrace Community Engagement

Meanwhile Brewing has recently introduced a new running club called the Meanwhile Mile Collective, leveraging the Strava app to track participants’ progress. Monthly challenges will reward runners with discounts on beverages, with a January incentive offering 90 percent off the first drink after a 90-minute run. The brewery plans additional collaborations and events in the near future.

Additionally, Cousin Louie’s, an Italian restaurant located near Dripping Springs, has unveiled new menu items inspired by traditional Roman cuisine. These dishes will be available alongside the regular menu until the end of February and include offerings such as stracciatella alla Roma, fried artichoke hearts, and bucatini amatriciana, known for its rich tomato and guanciale pairing.

For those seeking a refreshing experience, Central Market is hosting its annual Citrus Fest, running until January 27. The event features deals on citrus fruits and an array of prepared foods, including citrus-marinated meats and lemon-flavored treats. Customers can explore featured products and specials on the store’s website.

On January 17, Lazarus Brewing Co. will celebrate its 9th anniversary with a unique event focused on beer poking, a method that enhances the flavors of beer by inserting a hot iron rod. Guests who purchase one of four Imperial Stouts can enjoy this process for free. The celebration will also feature live music, new merchandise, and a s’mores pit, making it an engaging community event.

Austin’s food landscape continues to evolve, with new openings and innovative events enhancing the dining and social experience for residents and visitors alike.
