Michelle Williams is poised to potentially secure her second Emmy Award for her poignant performance in FX’s limited series, “Dying For Sex.” Following her win for “Fosse/Verdon,” Williams plays the role of Molly Kochan, a woman grappling with a terminal cancer diagnosis who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and desire. The series is inspired by the podcast created by Kochan and her close friend, Nikki Boyer.
The eight-part series captures the essence of Molly’s story, blending humor and heartbreak. Williams, recognized for her ability to convey deep emotional nuances, explains how she became deeply connected to the narrative. “I was moved by it,” she shared in an interview with On The Red Carpet. “When I listened to the podcast, my heart immediately became attached to the story and to these people.”
Critical Acclaim and Emmy Nominations
“Dying For Sex” has garnered a total of nine Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Williams is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series, while Jenny Slate is recognized for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and Rob Delaney, who portrays Neighbor Guy, is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Reflecting on the positive atmosphere during filming, Delaney remarked, “You get a feel on set and the feel on this set was very, very good.” He added, “How it turned out, the magic that happened in the translation from filming to broadcasting? Yeah, I feel very lucky.”
Slate also expressed her gratitude for the project, saying, “I’m feeling so grateful for the amount of encouragement I’m getting and for the amount of joy that I felt making this show and continue to feel. I’m very excited, very happy.”
Honoring Real Lives and Experiences
The series holds profound significance for Boyer, who not only co-created the podcast but also served as an executive producer. She expressed her appreciation for the cast and crew’s commitment to telling the story authentically. “I love that everyone was so available to absorb the story and be willing to take it on and take it in,” Boyer stated.
When asked about the Emmys conversation surrounding the series, Boyer became emotional, reflecting on how Molly would perceive the accolades. “The funny thing about Molly is she was so humble and so sweet and so loving and so present that there would be part of her that would be like, ‘Can you believe this? This is unbelievable that my tiny little life means something so big,'” she shared.
The series “Dying For Sex” is currently available for streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. Both platforms, along with FX, are part of The Walt Disney Company. As the Emmy Awards approach, anticipation builds not only for the recognition of the performances but also for the heartfelt story that resonates with many viewers.
