BREAKING: Memphis guard Sincere Parker has had his bail dramatically reduced from $120,000 to $75,000, just two days after being charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The decision was made by Shelby County General Sessions Criminal Court Judge Greg Gilbert during a hearing on Monday.
Parker’s attorney, Arthur Horne, confirmed that the bond has already been posted. Parker is now scheduled to appear in court again on July 29. As part of the conditions of his release, he is required to maintain a distance of at least 100 feet from his ex-girlfriend.
The assault reportedly occurred on May 27 at an apartment shared by the couple. According to the police report, the woman claims Parker pushed her, slapped her in the face, and choked her, resulting in visible bruises and injuries. She also reported that Parker destroyed her cellphone to prevent her from accessing the digital key to their apartment.
Horne stated that the incident was recorded during a video call between Parker and his mother, which he believes will be beneficial for the defense. “We plan on fighting this,” Horne declared. “This has been a long, ongoing saga between him and the ex-girlfriend. I just hope the public will give us time to sort through it so the whole story does come out because there are two sides to this.”
The allegations have raised concerns about Parker’s future with the Memphis athletic department. Horne indicated that the department is waiting to see how the case develops before making any decisions regarding Parker’s status on the team.
Parker, aged 23, transferred to Memphis after averaging 12.2 points per game last season with McNeese, which helped the team reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He previously played for Saint Louis for his first two collegiate seasons.
As this situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the upcoming court date and the implications it may have for Parker’s future both on and off the court. This developing story will continue to be updated as new information emerges.
