UPDATE: In a thrilling Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Max Muncy made history by hitting his 14th career postseason homer, setting a new franchise record on October 17, 2023, against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Muncy’s impressive 412-foot blast over the center-field wall in the sixth inning not only broke the previous record he shared with Justin Turner and Corey Seager, but it also propelled the Dodgers to a decisive 5-1 victory, giving them a dominant 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
“It means a lot to me,” Muncy expressed after the game. “The Dodgers are a franchise that have been around for a very, very long time. A lot of very successful players have played in this organization. And to be able to break that record is kind of huge for me.”
This historic homer came during Muncy’s 70th postseason game with the Dodgers, a remarkable feat compared to Turner’s 86 games and Seager’s 61 games. Muncy emphasized that his achievements reflect the opportunities he’s had to compete in significant October matchups.
“The biggest thing I would say is it speaks to the fact that I’ve had a chance to play in so many postseason games,” he added. “You know you’ll have a chance in October to play meaningful baseball games. That’s always been the most important thing to me.”
In Game 1, Muncy nearly set the record earlier when he hit a deep drive that turned into an unusual 8-6-2 double play after the Brewers’ Sal Frelick dropped the ball. Muncy recounted his anxiety over the play, stating, “I definitely thought he got it… When I didn’t see it bounce, I thought he came down with it again. I was about to be very, very frustrated. But I saw him sit on the ground. That’s when I realized he didn’t have it.”
As the Dodgers gear up for Game 3, Muncy’s record-breaking performance not only highlights his personal achievements but also the team’s potential to clinch a spot in the World Series. Fans and analysts alike are excited to see what this powerhouse team will accomplish next.
With the Dodgers now in a strong position, all eyes will be on their upcoming games as they aim for postseason glory. Stay tuned for more updates as the series unfolds!
