UPDATE: A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $100,000 worth of skin grafts and surgical equipment from a hospital in Rancho Mirage, California. Jason Brauner, 47, was taken into custody on Wednesday after authorities tracked him down in Del Mar while he was en route to San Diego.

Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department revealed that Brauner gained access to restricted areas of the hospital by posing as staff, donning blue scrubs and a surgical mask to evade detection. Over the course of three separate incidents in June and July 2025, he successfully stole medical supplies valued at over $100,000.

Law enforcement officials acted quickly, locating Brauner’s vehicle and stopping him without incident. A search of both his vehicle and his residence in San Jacinto uncovered stolen medical equipment and hospital apparel. Following his arrest, Brauner was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on multiple charges, including grand theft, commercial burglary, and possession of stolen property.

Authorities confirmed that Brauner is also linked to similar thefts at hospitals in Loma Linda and Newport Beach, raising concerns about the safety of medical facilities in the region.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant as the investigation continues, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact local authorities. This alarming incident highlights the critical need for security measures in healthcare settings, ensuring that vulnerable patients and valuable medical supplies are protected.
