The findings indicate that the issue of cheating has driven 42% of players to abandon games entirely due to unfair practices. Furthermore, 55% of respondents reported reducing or ceasing their spending on in-game purchases as a direct result of their experiences with cheaters. The implications of these statistics are significant, with the report emphasizing that “the effects of this on gamers, and therefore for game studios alike, are stark,” suggesting a potential decline in studio revenue.
Gamers Demand Accountability
The research also highlighted gamers’ preferences for a secure gaming environment. An overwhelming 83% of participants expressed a higher likelihood of playing a game that advertised itself as “cheater-free.” Moreover, 73% indicated they would be willing to verify their identity to ensure a fair gaming experience. This indicates a strong desire within the gaming community for accountability and transparency from developers.
The report underscored a consensus among gamers regarding the need for penalties against those who cheat. A notable 79% of those surveyed stressed that individuals identified as cheaters should face consequences across multiple games.
