In November 2025, the LUNGevity Foundation is spearheading the observance of Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM) across the United States. The foundation aims to spotlight the advances in lung cancer research, the ongoing challenges, and the critical need for early detection and management of the disease. Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, with more fatalities annually than breast, prostate, ovarian, and kidney cancers combined.

According to the foundation, awareness and research efforts have significantly improved survival rates. “This month is about more than awareness; it’s also about action,” said Andrea Ferris, MBA, President and CEO of LUNGevity Foundation. “People are living longer and better with lung cancer, but we must continue to enhance screening efforts and increase funding for research into early detection technologies and treatments.”

National Initiatives and Events

Throughout November, LUNGevity has planned several national initiatives to engage the public and advocate for lung cancer awareness. One of the key components is the “Anyone with Lungs Can Get Lung Cancer” campaign, which emphasizes that lung cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or smoking history. This campaign provides actionable steps for individuals to help spread the word.

An impactful visual representation of the campaign will be seen on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where 60,000 white flags will be installed to honor the approximately 120,000 Americans who succumb to lung cancer each year. Smaller installations will also be set up in Boston and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to further illustrate the toll of this disease.

On November 8, LUNGevity will host community events, including lung health resource fairs in Boston, Washington, D.C., and New York City. A nationwide virtual event, Breathe Deep Anywhere, will also take place, featuring partner events across the country in collaboration with the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALCSI). This date is significant as it marks National Lung Cancer Screening Day, a coordinated effort to boost participation in low-dose CT screenings.

Additionally, November 13 will see the observance of Cancer Biomarker Awareness Day, which will highlight the role of precision medicine in enhancing treatment outcomes across multiple cancers. Recognizing the importance of caregivers, LUNGevity will also honor those who provide essential support during National Family Caregivers Month.

Support and Resources

The LUNGevity Foundation expresses gratitude to its sponsors, including major pharmaceutical companies such as AbbVie, Amgen, AstraZeneca, and others, for their contributions to the Lung Cancer Awareness Month campaign. Their support is vital in promoting awareness and driving meaningful change within the lung cancer community.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month serves as a reminder that awareness, education, and advocacy are crucial in the fight against lung cancer. Through innovative research and community engagement, LUNGevity is committed to fostering a future where lung cancer is detected early, treated effectively, and ultimately cured. For those interested in getting involved, more information can be found at www.LUNGevity.org/LCAM.

The LUNGevity Foundation is dedicated to transforming the experience of being diagnosed with lung cancer. By focusing on improving quality of life and survivorship, the foundation aims to promote health equity and address disparities throughout the care continuum. Its comprehensive resources include a patient-centric website, support programs, and tools to connect patients with clinical trials.

With over 226,000 new lung cancer diagnoses anticipated this year in the United States, the urgency of these initiatives is clear. Approximately 1 in 18 Americans will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and early detection efforts.
