The Lucid Gravity has made headlines by becoming the fastest SUV ever tested by Car and Driver, outperforming traditional gas-powered competitors from renowned brands such as Porsche and Lamborghini. This electric SUV completed the quarter-mile in an astonishing 10.6 seconds at a speed of 140 mph, highlighting the growing dominance of electric powertrains in straight-line performance.
During a recent evaluation, the Gravity Dream Edition showcased its impressive acceleration capabilities. It reached 30 mph in just 1.4 seconds, 70 mph in 3.7 seconds, and surpassed 100 mph in 5.9 seconds. This performance is particularly remarkable for a vehicle of its size, as it is a three-row, seven-seat SUV rather than a low-slung supercar.
Earlier this year, at the press launch, the Lucid Gravity left a strong impression, but recent tests have provided deeper insights into its performance. In a competitive drag race led by automotive journalist Jason Cammisa, the Gravity outperformed several high-powered SUVs, including Rivian’s quad-motor R1S, solidifying its position as a leader in the electric SUV market.
According to Car and Driver, the Gravity’s performance puts it ahead of the Lamborghini Urus Performante, which completed the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which also recorded a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds. Notably, the Gravity nearly matched the time of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, falling short by just a tenth of a second while actually beating it to 150 mph by approximately three seconds.
The Gravity Dream Edition boasts two motors, delivering an impressive 1,070 horsepower and 909 lb-ft of torque. This model marks Lucid’s second vehicle launch following the success of the Lucid Air in 2021. The swift performance of the Gravity serves as a strong endorsement for the electric vehicle startup’s technology and potential.
Despite these impressive specifications and performance benchmarks, Lucid faces significant challenges in achieving sustainable business growth. The company initiated production of the Gravity late last year, but sales have been sluggish, with only 70 units sold in the first half of 2025, according to data from Cox Automotive. Lucid has indicated that the production ramp for the Gravity will be gradual, making it imperative for the company to increase sales volume.
The rapid acceleration and performance of the Gravity reiterate the capabilities of electric vehicles in the competitive automotive market. As electric powertrains continue to evolve, the Lucid Gravity stands as a testament to what modern technology can achieve, especially in the realm of performance SUVs. Next time enthusiasts gather at the drag strip, the presence of this electric family-hauler is sure to turn heads and challenge expectations.
