The Lower Cape May wrestling team, ranked 19th in the NJ.com Top 20, showcased an impressive performance at the Gator Wrestling Tournament on March 1, 2025. Competing at Williamstown High School in New Jersey, the Capers dominated the event, securing a total of nine individual titles and finishing first in the team standings with a score of 283.5 points. Lenape followed in second place with 219 points, while the hosting Gateway team finished third, accumulating 124 points.
Leading the charge for Lower Cape May was three-time state medalist Chase Hansen, who not only competed but excelled in the finals, defeating Zavier Stokes of Delsea in the 138-pound bout. Hansen’s victory was marked by a decisive pin over Red Bank’s John Galligan in the 144-pound title match.
Several of Hansen’s teammates also shined, with David Douglas, Shane Morrell, and Gabe Tosto all claiming titles through pins in their respective finals. Other notable performances included Bryce Paley, who won the 120-pound title with a technical fall against Gateway’s Leo Butler, and Eli Glover, who secured the 132-pound title with a 19-4 technical fall over Lenape’s Talon Shugar.
The competition saw Tristian Rosemeyer claim the 113-pound title with a 19-4 technical victory against Lenape’s Eric La Grotta, while Daniel Byrne earned a commanding 16-4 major decision over Red Bank’s Jason Huss in the 157-pound final. Dominick Marrero also made his mark, defeating Buena’s Thomas Hearn with a 7-4 decision at 138 pounds.
Lenape’s success included titles for Jackson Wheeler, Owen Boyle, and Quinton Richardson-Wright. The hosting Gators celebrated a title won by Mike Graham, who pinned Buena’s John Sutton at 106 pounds. Additionally, Maple Shade’s Aaron Wells clinched the 150-pound title with a narrow 6-5 decision over Lower Cape May’s Andrew Brant.
The Gator Wrestling Tournament not only highlighted individual talent but also underscored the strength of team dynamics within the wrestling community.
