UPDATE: A Lowell man, Alex Castellano, has been charged with aggravated child rape following shocking allegations of years-long abuse involving a girl known to him. This urgent development comes after the alleged victim reported the abuse to police, prompting an extensive investigation into Castellano’s actions that may involve additional victims.

The allegations first surfaced on December 10, 2023, when the girl’s father approached law enforcement, revealing that his daughter had disclosed sexual abuse by Castellano, 48. As the investigation unfolded, more individuals have come forward, alleging similar abuse that had never been reported before.

Details from a police report indicate that the victim revealed the abuse began when she was just 5 years old and continued until she was around 10 or 11, occurring “a few times a month.” Fearful of Castellano’s “anger issues,” she initially hesitated to speak out, but a friend encouraged her to tell her family. The girl recounted incidents of abuse during sleepovers and in Castellano’s vehicle, describing how she felt “uncomfortable” and unsafe.

On February 19, 2024, Castellano was arrested and subsequently denied the allegations during a police interview. He suggested that the victim might have fabricated the claims “for attention.” Following the arrest, he was arraigned and released after posting a $5,000 bail, but remains under strict conditions, including home confinement and a curfew.

The investigation has revealed that Castellano’s partner described their relationship with the children as positive, claiming he was “like a kid” himself. However, she also admitted to not reporting past incidents of domestic disputes. Her statement regarding Castellano’s interactions with minors is called into question by the gravity of the allegations against him.

Authorities are treating this case with the utmost seriousness. Aggravated rape of a child carries a potential prison sentence of at least 10 years. Castellano is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on April 28, 2024, as the investigation continues to explore whether there are more undisclosed victims.

This disturbing case highlights the critical need for vigilance and support for those who may be suffering in silence. As authorities investigate further, the community is urged to remain aware and proactive in protecting children from potential harm.
