Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has collaborated with the nonprofit organization Project Street Vet to provide veterinary care for pets belonging to the city’s homeless population. This initiative took place on March 8, 2024, at a pop-up clinic established at a Harbor City interim housing site. As part of Mayor Bass’ Inside Safe initiative, the clinic offered essential services to pets, ensuring that vulnerable residents could receive support alongside their four-legged companions.
During the outreach event, volunteer veterinarians attended to 31 cats and dogs, offering check-ups, vaccines, and preventative treatments for fleas and ticks. Additionally, vouchers for spay and neuter services were distributed to promote the health and well-being of these animals. Mayor Bass emphasized the importance of keeping unhoused Angelenos united with their pets, stating, “When unhoused Angelenos can stay united with their pets, they are more likely to come inside and stay housed.”

This collaboration reflects the ongoing efforts of the Inside Safe initiative, which has reportedly helped clear nearly 120 encampments across Los Angeles, assisting thousands in finding shelter.
