Lo Bosworth, known for her role on reality television, has opted for a more intimate wedding ceremony after confronting the realities of high wedding costs. The 38-year-old entrepreneur, who became engaged to Domenic “Dom” Natale in January 2023, shared her experience in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly as part of their “Money Talks” feature.
“I think it’s shocking when you realize how expensive a wedding is,” Bosworth stated, reflecting on her planning process. She has decided to host a small family gathering, which she referred to as a “microwedding.” This choice signifies a shift from extravagant celebrations to a more personal approach that ultimately reduced stress.
The couple plans to tie the knot on the beach in Laguna, followed by a celebration in Bosworth’s parents’ backyard. “Turns out you do not need all of the stuff to make you feel happy and fulfilled!” she remarked, highlighting the importance of prioritizing meaningful experiences over material excess.
In her conversation with Us Weekly, Bosworth revealed her financial insights as she navigates her wedding plans and business endeavors. She founded Love Wellness, a women’s personal care line, in 2016 and has since learned valuable lessons about money management.
When asked about her current cash habits, Bosworth admitted, “I don’t even carry a wallet anymore. I have keys and my phone — that’s it!” This minimalist approach reflects her transition from being a spender to a more cautious saver. “When I was younger, I spent a lot of money until I realized that that’s not sustainable,” she explained.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Bosworth acknowledged her parents’ influence on her financial philosophy. “What my parents taught me about money is that you should embrace the American dream: Set your goals high and go out and achieve them,” she shared. This mentality has shaped her approach to investments and financial planning.
The entrepreneur discussed her first job, which involved babysitting neighborhood children during Park Night in middle school, earning $40 per evening. This early experience, coupled with her later role on Laguna Beach, provided her with a foundation in financial responsibility.
As for tipping, Bosworth emphasized the importance of recognizing the hard work of those in the service industry. “I think that people in the service industry work really hard. It’s important to tip appropriately,” she stated, advocating for a 20 to 30 percent tip for good service.
Bosworth also opened up about her journey with Love Wellness, describing it as her best investment. “I invested the last of my savings into it, which meant I was cash poor all of a sudden,” she noted, emphasizing the critical role of having a financial planner during significant decisions.
While she has encountered setbacks with some investments in small consumer brands that did not succeed, Bosworth remains optimistic. “You never go in with the belief that they will all return — the majority of them will not — but it still hurts every time it doesn’t work,” she said.
Traveling is one of her splurges, but she maintains a practical approach to purchases. “Sunglasses — I only buy them on Amazon. They are all less than $15,” she explained, revealing her stance against spending excessively on fleeting trends.
Bosworth concluded her interview with a key lesson learned about money management: “Having a plan is, hands down, the most important lesson. Do not spend through your life blindly.”
Her insights offer a refreshing perspective on financial responsibility amidst the pressures of wedding planning, showcasing that joy and fulfillment can come from simplicity and intentionality.
