Reflecting on his teaching journey, Haggermaker expressed pride in his role as an educator. He stated, “Getting to help mold students’ futures by teaching and encouraging them and seeing their growth — whether big or small” is what motivates him daily. His experience has instilled in him the importance of patience and the commitment to never give up on a student.

Commitment to Students and Community

Haggermaker appreciates the supportive environment at Limestone County Schools. He noted the collaborative spirit among colleagues and the encouragement from administration, which he finds essential for fostering a positive teaching atmosphere. The strong relationships with students and their families in the community further inspire him to elevate his teaching.

When asked how his students inspire him, Haggermaker highlighted their determination, saying they motivate him “to strive to be better each day” and foster an appreciation for the opportunity to share his knowledge of construction trades.

Outside of the classroom, Haggermaker enjoys various outdoor activities, including gardening, hunting, and cooking. His favorite quote, “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest,” from the book of Joshua, reflects his resilient spirit.

The Alabama Teacher of the Year Program aims to honor educators by identifying and recognizing exceptional teachers at the local, district, and state levels. The program is open to public school classroom teachers, librarians, counselors, and other certified individuals in K-12 settings. The selection process begins at the school level, ensuring that the most dedicated educators are celebrated for their contributions to the profession.
