The Las Vegas Raiders demonstrated their commitment to children’s health in Nevada by participating in the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” initiative on Sunday. Players took to the field wearing customized cleats and sneakers designed to honor young patients facing serious illnesses.
Linebacker Elandon Roberts collaborated with 11-year-old Isaak Gavin-Oddie, a pediatric patient battling Ewing Sarcoma, to create cleats that represent Isaak’s chemotherapy journey and his upcoming surgery. In another inspiring partnership, Sandra Douglass Morgan, President of the Raiders, worked with 7-year-old Evelyn Lackey, a brain cancer survivor, to design sneakers adorned with dragons and flowers.
Building Hope for Young Patients
As part of the initiative, the Raiders spotlighted Intermountain Health’s ambitious plan to establish Nevada’s first standalone children’s hospital by 2030. This facility aims to provide comprehensive cancer care and other essential services for young patients. “This is about giving our kids hope, healing, and a future they can grow into,” stated Sandra Douglass Morgan.
The custom-designed cleats and sneakers, which showcase the resilience and courage of these young patients, will be auctioned at the 2025 Festival of Trees in Salt Lake City. Proceeds from the auction will directly support the development of the planned children’s hospital.
In another significant collaboration, Mitch Cloward, President of Intermountain Health’s region, joined forces with 14-year-old Aiden Woodward, who lives with a rare brain condition, to create a distinct pair of sneakers. Cloward emphasized the remarkable strength of the young patients, stating, “The strength of the patients cannot be understated.”
Through this initiative, the Raiders not only engage with their community but also inspire hope among young patients and their families. By raising awareness and funds for children’s health, the team underscores the importance of support and medical care for those facing serious health challenges.
