Lady Gaga is set to release her concert film, ‘Harlequin Live — One Night Only’, on December 24, 2024, just in time for the holiday season. This highly anticipated film showcases a live performance recorded at the Belasco Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles on September 30, 2024. It captures the essence of her latest album, ‘Harlequin’, which serves as a companion piece to her role in the film ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’.
The concert film features Gaga performing the entirety of her ‘Harlequin’ album, which draws from the American jazz canon while infusing modern pop sensibilities. Notable tracks include classic standards such as Frank Sinatra’s “That’s Life” and Judy Garland’s “Get Happy.” The project has been executive produced by Gaga, who also played a crucial role in its creative direction alongside Todd Tourso and Mel Roy of mtla.studio. Renowned director of photography Marcell Rév captured the event, with musical direction provided by Gaga and her team, including Brian Newman, Tim Stewart, and Alex Smith.
During a recent Q&A session following the film’s premiere at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, Gaga explained her choice to release the film on Christmas Eve, stating, “I’m feeling like: Why not? We have this thing that’s so special to us, so we’re just really happy to share it with the fans.” She described the project as “kind of a rebellious” endeavor, emphasizing that the festive season is an ideal time for such an expression of creativity.
In the press release for ‘Harlequin Live’, Gaga described the album as a “singular love letter from Gaga to music lovers around the world,” highlighting its unique blend of traditional jazz and contemporary influences. She expressed her excitement about continuing her journey as a jazz musician, stating, “This will not be my last jazz record. So it’s just exciting to keep going.” Gaga reflected on her passion for music, declaring, “It will never be enough… even when I’m in my nineties, I will never have gone through every genre and figured it all out.”
As the music industry prepares for the upcoming 68th Grammy Awards, Gaga’s album ‘Harlequin’ has garnered significant recognition, earning a nomination for Best Traditional Pop Album. Additionally, she is nominated in several categories, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Dance Pop Recording for her hit “Abracadabra,” along with Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘MAYHEM’, and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Disease.”
With the release of ‘Harlequin Live’, Lady Gaga continues to captivate audiences worldwide, blending her artistic vision with a festive spirit that resonates with fans during the holiday season.
