Kristen Stewart has achieved a significant milestone in her career as she received her first award as a director at the 2025 Deauville American Film Festival. The actress, now turned filmmaker, was honored with the Revelation Award on September 13, 2025, for her film The Chronology of Water, which is an adaptation of the memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch.

While accepting the award, Stewart reflected on the journey of creating the film, revealing that it took eight years to bring her vision to life. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to direct, stating, “It was enough for me to even be allowed to make this movie.” Her comments highlighted the struggles many first-time filmmakers face, emphasizing that the process felt deeply personal for her.

Stewart described her experience in making the film, noting, “I understand it’s a common story for first filmmakers to have it feel impossible, but the uphill battle on this one felt so personal and not for me, but for me, girl.” She elaborated on the film’s themes, saying, “I was trying to make a movie about bleeding, and the digging and the climb that it takes to unearth a voice in a world masterfully designed to silence us — It took 8 f–king years.”

The film centers on a woman, portrayed by Imogen Poots, who navigates the aftermath of an abusive childhood. As she channels her trauma into competitive swimming, she also explores her sexuality, faces toxic relationships, and battles addiction before ultimately discovering her voice as a writer.

Earlier this year, Stewart premiered The Chronology of Water at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. During the Deauville American Film Festival, she also supported her friend Zoey Deutch, who received the Hollywood Rising Star Award.

The recognition at Deauville marks a promising beginning for Stewart’s directorial career, showcasing her ability to translate personal experiences into powerful storytelling. As she steps into this new role, audiences eagerly anticipate her future projects and the unique narratives she will continue to bring to life.
