The King’s College men’s basketball team achieved a dramatic nonleague victory on November 15, 2023, defeating Centenary in a triple-overtime thriller. The Monarchs emerged victorious with a final score of 100-99 at McGrane Gymnasium, showcasing resilience and teamwork throughout the intense matchup.

Ben Malley proved to be a standout player, coming off the bench to score an impressive 31 points. He was supported by strong performances from teammates Ben Rodner-Tims, Jake Karnish, and Devin Kimmick, all of whom recorded double-doubles. Rodner-Tims contributed 29 points along with 10 assists, while Karnish secured 16 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Kimmick added 10 points and collected 11 rebounds, further solidifying the team’s performance. Jaden Hall also made his mark, scoring 11 points in the nail-biting contest.

In other local basketball action, the Susquehanna University men’s team defeated Wilkes University 75-72. The River Hawks built a solid 10-point lead by halftime and managed to hold off a strong second-half effort from Wilkes. Mario Castro Sanchez led Susquehanna with a game-high 25 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field. KJ Carson made a significant impact off the bench with 10 points. For Wilkes, Eli Becker led the scoring with 18 points, while teammates Jack Argento and Lucas Lesko contributed 17 and 13 points, respectively. Wilkes fell to a record of 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Landmark Conference, while Susquehanna improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Meanwhile, the Misericordia University men’s team secured a 70-64 victory over Swarthmore College. After trailing by two points at halftime, the Cougars outscored Swarthmore by eight points in the second half, extending their winning streak to five games. Matt Prociak led Misericordia with 17 points, while Jack Gallagher recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Eli Stoute added 11 points, and Darryl Wright, a graduate of Holy Redeemer, came off the bench to contribute 10 points. The Cougars now hold a record of 5-3 for the season.

Women’s Basketball Update

In women’s basketball, Susquehanna continued its strong performance with a convincing 72-46 win over Wilkes at The Marts Center. After entering the second quarter tied at 15-15, Susquehanna surged ahead with a 16-7 advantage to end the half. The River Hawks dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Wilkes 28-14 to secure the victory. Annie Greek led Susquehanna with 13 points, while Sydney Weyant and Zoie Mafffei chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Wilkes struggled offensively, with Maliyah Warren leading the team with 15 points and Yamirelis Matos adding 14. From McGrane Gymnasium, King’s women’s basketball team also shone brightly, defeating Penn State Schuylkill 82-37. The Monarchs jumped to a commanding 20-point lead by the end of the first quarter and secured their fifth consecutive win. Cadie Lewis led the scoring effort with 17 points, followed closely by Gianna Dickson with 13 points and Lauren Casey, who recorded 12 points and nine rebounds. King’s College improved to 5-2 on the season with this decisive win.
