The book, referenced by IndieWire, indicates that escalating creative tensions between Lin and Diesel, alongside complications involving Diesel’s sister and producer Samantha Vincent, were central to the conflict.
Disagreements emerged particularly over the film’s script, which originally included a dramatic twist revealing that the character Dante was the biological father of Little Brian. This unexpected narrative choice would have forced Diesel’s character, Dom, to confront his core belief about family, risking everything for a child not biologically his own. While some team members supported this darker twist, Diesel reportedly held a different view.
Universal Pictures, the studio behind the franchise, was also said to be heavily involved in the creative process.
