Joy-Anna Duggar has publicly addressed criticism from followers regarding her parenting choices, particularly concerning the renovation of her daughter Evelyn’s bedroom. On October 24, 2023, Duggar shared her plans to change Evelyn’s vibrant hot pink walls to a more neutral color as part of a broader home renovation.
In a post on her Instagram Stories, Duggar explained that the decision was part of a complete overhaul of their home. She noted, “Definitely not going for this style…Evelyn is sad to see the bright pink go but I promised her we will make her room sooo cute!” The 27-year-old mother expressed her vision for Evelyn’s new space, mentioning a desire for a look that combines French country and cottage core aesthetics.
Following her announcement, Duggar faced backlash from some of her followers, who accused her of stifling her daughter’s self-expression. One comment stated, “Sad you don’t let your kids express themselves. She loves the color but of course you have to crush her creativity #badparenting.” Another follower criticized her, saying, “It’s so sad you’re forcing her style on her.”
In response to these criticisms, Duggar took to her Instagram Stories to clarify her decision. “We’re redoing the WHOLE house… NEW drywall, new paint, everything,” she explained. “So the bright pink walls are going bye-bye. We may pick out a fun color later, but for now, I’m keeping things neutral until the renovation’s done.” She emphasized that her daughter will still have opportunities to personalize her space through decor and bedding choices.
Duggar, who welcomed Evelyn in 2020, is also a mother to two sons, Gideon and Gunner, born in 2018 and 2023, respectively. The family has faced significant challenges, including the stillbirth of their daughter Annabell in 2019. Reflecting on that experience, Duggar shared the emotional toll it took, describing the delivery process as “extremely hard” but expressing gratitude for the support she received during that time.
As a prominent figure in the reality television world, Duggar is known for her appearances on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and its spin-off, Counting On. With a large following on social media, her posts often attract both support and criticism, reflecting the complexities of parenting in the public eye.
