Joey Schlaffer, a former standout at Exeter High School, is no longer listed on the Penn State football roster. The news was first reported by Blue-White Illustrated, confirming that Schlaffer, who stands at 6 feet 5 inches and weighs 250 pounds, has departed the team after three seasons with the Nittany Lions. Despite having two years of eligibility remaining, his time at Penn State has come to an end.

During his time at Penn State, Schlaffer recorded a single catch for a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer in a game against Villanova in September 2023. This catch marked the only reception of his collegiate career. Over the course of the current season, he participated in three games, while he played in four games during the previous season. Notably, he was not included on the travel roster for the last two games against Ohio State and Iowa.

High School Success and Records

Before joining Penn State, Schlaffer established a remarkable record at Exeter High School, where he led the team to a 12-1 record during his senior year in 2022. He recorded impressive statistics that season, catching 38 passes for 879 yards and scoring nine touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. His performance as a four-year starter set Berks County career records for both receiving yards, totaling 2,493 yards, and receiving touchdowns, with a total of 28.

Schlaffer’s departure from the Penn State roster raises questions about his future in college football, especially given his prior achievements at the high school level. His journey will be closely followed by fans and analysts alike as he seeks new opportunities in the sport.
