The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team secured a commanding 4-1 victory against Southwest Minnesota State on March 15, 2024, at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium. The Jimmies showcased their offensive prowess, netting four goals while maintaining a solid defensive performance throughout the match.
Vega Canada opened the scoring for Jamestown in the 27th minute, giving her team an early 1-0 lead. The Jimmies continued their strong performance into the second half, with Haley Nelson doubling the advantage in the 52nd minute. Just six minutes later, Kuhela Ledward extended the lead to 3-0 with an assist from Langley Grow. The scoring surge continued when Hannah Hynek added a fourth goal in the 60th minute, again assisted by Nelson.
Despite the dominant performance by Jamestown, Southwest Minnesota State responded in the 83rd minute when Laynee Godfrey found the net, assisted by Abigail Schmidt. However, the Jimmies’ defense held strong, ensuring that the match concluded with a final score of 4-1.
The combined efforts of goalkeepers Skylar Lind and Isa Garcia were crucial, as they made three saves to secure the win. As the Jimmies celebrate this victory, they prepare to continue their conference play on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at noon against Sioux Falls at home in Jamestown.
