Popular singer Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, candidly discussed his mental health struggles during the Australian leg of his “Beautifully Broken” tour. In a recent episode of the “No Filter” podcast with Kate Langbroek, he revealed that he was experiencing significant challenges, stating, “I’m doing the worst mentally I’ve done in a long time.”

During the podcast, Jelly Roll explained that the structure of the tour played a significant role in his struggles. Unlike his previous tours in the United States, where he traveled with a group on a bus, this time he found himself spending extended periods alone in hotel rooms. “I don’t like spending a lot of time in my hotel room by myself,” he mentioned. “I’m in my head. I’m not having fun; I want to go home.”

The singer also highlighted a concerning increase in his stomach issues while touring in Australia. He described how this discomfort exacerbated his mental state, saying, “When my stomach’s not right, nothing is right. My mind’s not right; I’m just not thinking clear.”

Jelly Roll’s struggles culminated in the cancellation of a show in Auckland, New Zealand, on November 8, 2023. The performance was expected to be the final show of his tour in Australia and New Zealand. Many fans were unaware of the cancellation until they arrived at the venue, prompting the artist to express his disappointment via Instagram Stories. He wrote, “Dear Auckland, I’ve done everything I can. I just can’t shake it. It breaks my heart; I’ve probably missed three shows in the last decade. I pride myself on showing up no matter what. Just couldn’t do it this time. Please forgive me.”

While Jelly Roll did not specify the reason for the cancellation, it is apparent that his health issues were a significant factor. His tour began on October 24, 2023, and concluded on November 6, 2023, with the artist now expected to return to the stage in Mexico City on November 15, 2023.

Jelly Roll’s openness about his mental health challenges highlights the often unseen pressures faced by artists on tour. His experience serves as a reminder of the importance of mental well-being, particularly in high-stress environments.
