UPDATE: James Gunn has just announced that casting for the new Wonder Woman film has not yet begun. The director of the highly anticipated Superman project responded to circulating rumors on social media, clarifying that the casting process will only commence once the script is completed.
In a candid post on Threads, Gunn stated, “I’m not actively looking for actors to star in the movie nor even discussing it, until a script is finished.” He dismissed speculation suggesting that DC Studios was particularly searching for an actress with a television background, similar to Milly Alcock, who starred in the recent hit series. “Nope. And I’d never in a million years look for a major role based on whether they did TV, films, or whatever,” he emphasized. “It’s all about the casting.”
The upcoming Wonder Woman film is confirmed as a “priority” for DC, but Gunn urged fans not to misconstrue that as a sign of it being “fast-tracked.” He stated, “Nothing is going to be shot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good.” This news comes at a time when fans are eagerly awaiting updates on the future of the DC cinematic universe.
Gunn has also recently shared insights into his casting decisions for Superman, where David Corenswet ultimately secured the lead role. Notably, Nicholas Hoult also auditioned for Superman but ended up portraying the villain, Lex Luthor. Gunn acknowledged the talent of Hoult, saying, “He’s a great actor…but he just didn’t fit the role.”
The chemistry between Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, was a crucial factor in the casting process. Gunn noted, “David had better chemistry with Rachel because she’s a very controlled actor, and David is a little bit more loose, and that creates a different type of dynamism onscreen.”
As anticipation builds for both the Wonder Woman and Superman films, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for updates. The development of these iconic characters could reshape the landscape of superhero films in the coming years, making it essential for audiences to keep an eye on the latest announcements from DC Studios.
Expect further updates as Gunn and his team work diligently to bring these beloved heroes back to the big screen.
