Itasca Waters will host a webinar on January 8, 2024, as part of its ongoing Practical Water Wisdom Series. The session, which will begin at noon, aims to bring attention to tribal community priorities in natural resource management. This initiative is free and open to the public, featuring an interactive Q&A segment to encourage participant engagement.

Insights from Tribal Leadership

The upcoming presentation will spotlight Shane Bowe, an aquatic biologist affiliated with the Red Lake Nation Department of Natural Resources. Bowe brings two decades of experience in integrating tribal perspectives and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) into lake management strategies. His insights will emphasize the importance of empowering tribal members to take an active role in managing their natural resources.

Bowe’s discussion will illustrate how this approach has developed over time, particularly in enhancing tribal representation within natural resource professions. He will highlight recent initiatives aimed at building long-term capacity and strengthening tribal leadership. These include outreach programs with the Red Lake Nation College and a tiered mentorship pathway that fosters professional growth among tribal members.
