Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, confirmed on Sunday that Russia is providing assistance to Iran in “many different directions” amid its ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel. This statement follows reports that Moscow has been sharing intelligence regarding the positions of U.S. forces in the Middle East.

During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Araghchi emphasized that military cooperation between Iran and Russia is longstanding. “It’s not a secret,” he stated. “It has been in the past, and it’s still there, and will continue in the future.” He characterized the relationship between Moscow and Tehran as a “very good partnership,” highlighting the depth of their collaboration.

The Iranian foreign minister was questioned about assertions that Russia has been aiding Iran by providing information about U.S. military assets, particularly in light of the recent escalation in hostilities known as Operation Epic Fury. Araghchi confirmed that Russian support is ongoing but did not elaborate on specific details. “They are helping us in many different directions,” he said.

Reports surfaced late last week indicating that Russia has been relaying the locations of American warships, aircraft, and other military resources since the onset of Israeli airstrikes on February 28, 2023. Since the conflict began, Iran has launched thousands of drones and missiles targeting U.S. interests throughout the region.

In response to these developments, U.S. officials have expressed skepticism regarding the effectiveness of Russian intelligence support. Mike Waltz, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, asserted that whatever assistance Russia is providing has not significantly aided Iran’s military capabilities. “Whatever they’re providing, if they’re providing anything, hasn’t shown to help them very much,” he stated, noting that U.S. forces have been “decimating” Iran’s military fleet.

As the situation continues to unfold, Araghchi dismissed calls for a ceasefire, insisting that Iran must persist in its military efforts. “There needs to be a permanent end to the war,” he remarked. “Unless we get to that, I think we need to continue fighting for the sake of our people and our security.”

The confirmation of Russian support for Iran raises concerns about the broader implications for regional stability and the ongoing conflict dynamics involving the United States and Israel. As tensions escalate, the international community watches closely to gauge the potential repercussions of this alliance.
