BREAKING: Guardians All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan has been ruled out of Friday’s game against the Athletics due to persistent soreness in his right wrist. Manager Stephen Vogt confirmed that Kwan’s condition is day-to-day and has been troubling him for over a month.

Kwan initially left a game on May 28, 2023, against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to wrist inflammation. After participating in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game, he consulted with doctors on Wednesday and received a treatment injection. This latest setback marks only the sixth game Kwan has missed this season, where he boasts a batting average of .285 along with six home runs and 32 RBIs.

“We encouraged him to go play in the All-Star Game. He earned the right. We knew this was coming,” Vogt stated.

This development is crucial for the Guardians as they navigate a competitive season. Kwan’s absence could significantly impact the lineup, especially considering his recent performance, including a crucial infield hit during the All-Star Game that brought in the tying run.

In addition to Kwan, the Guardians are making moves on other fronts. Pitcher Shane Bieber is set to make his next rehab start on Tuesday for either Triple-A Columbus or Single-A Lake County. Bieber, recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in April 2024, recently pitched two scoreless innings in an Arizona Complex League outing, striking out five batters.

Meanwhile, infielder Gabriel Arias is beginning his rehab assignment in Triple-A Columbus after spraining his left ankle on June 29. Right-hander Nic Enright has been recalled from Columbus following the placement of Paul Sewald on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain.

Adding to the excitement, prospect Travis Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick from last year’s amateur draft, has been activated off the injured list by Double-A Akron after missing two months due to an oblique strain. Bazzana has shown promise with a batting average of .252, including four home runs, 17 RBIs, and eight stolen bases in 33 games.

As the Guardians face the Athletics tonight, all eyes will be on Kwan’s recovery and the team’s performance without their star outfielder. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
