The city of Greeley is calling for artists to submit proposals for a new sculpture installation at the Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation Facility. The initiative, part of the city’s Public Art program, aims to enhance the facility’s aesthetic while showcasing its essential water treatment processes. Artists interested in participating must submit their proposals by August 25, 2023.
The selected artist will create a public art piece that reflects one or more operational aspects of the facility, such as the cleaning of water before it is returned to the river or the application of microbiology in the treatment process. According to a city news release, the artwork is intended to foster public understanding of the facility’s crucial role in environmental sustainability.

Additionally, in 2026, the Public Art program plans to issue a separate call for a large mural that will adorn a 150-foot-long concrete wall at the facility, complementing the upcoming sculpture.
The Public Art program is committed to commissioning projects that are of “redeeming quality” and that enhance the public’s appreciation of visual art. The city aims to create artworks that not only beautify public spaces but also elevate the community’s understanding of art’s role in everyday life.
