GRANITE QUARRY, NC — The festive spirit surged through Granite Lake Park as the annual Christmas at the Lake celebration took place on Saturday, lighting up the night with a dazzling display of holiday cheer. Families gathered at 5:45 p.m. to witness the highly anticipated lighting of the festival of trees, marking a cherished community tradition.

As the sun set, the lakeside transformed into a magical scene with festive characters including the gingerbread man, abominable snowman, and Grinch mingling among children. Kids delighted in lawn games and s’more making, while adults explored booths featuring local vendors and holiday treats from Happy’s Farm, which also donated character costumes.

The event wasn’t just about festivities; it was also a chance to give back. Granite Quarry encouraged attendees to participate in Operation Christmas Spirit, a program helping ten local families in need. “We get a Christmas list from the family with what the family needs,” explained Debbie Loflin-Benge, Granite Quarry Event Coordinator. “They ask for essentials like food and toiletries—things that are necessary.”

This year, the town introduced a house light competition, sponsored by Select Realty and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Neighborhood submissions are being collected, with the winner receiving a yard sign and a $100 gift card for more decorations. This friendly competition adds excitement to the festive season, encouraging community involvement.

Children were also invited to write letters to Santa at designated stations, a delightful activity that connected young ones directly with the holiday spirit. The event featured music and a cozy firepit, sponsored by Novant Health, where families could warm up and roast marshmallows.

As the main event approached, the crowd eagerly awaited the lighting ceremony. At 5:45 p.m., Mayor Brittany Barnhardt addressed the audience, building anticipation. For the first time, the town showcased a magnificent over ten-foot-tall tree adorned with white lights, standing out amid dozens of other sponsored trees lining the lake.

When the countdown concluded, the shore lit up in a breathtaking display, captivating everyone present. Families rushed to capture the moment with their phones, sharing smiles and laughter as the holiday spirit enveloped the park.

With over 15 volunteers and staff coordinating the event, Granite Quarry’s Christmas at the Lake proved to be a resounding success, drawing the community together in celebration and goodwill. Organizers emphasize that such events not only foster community spirit but also remind everyone of the importance of giving during the holiday season.

As the lights twinkled on the water and the sounds of joy filled the air, Granite Quarry reaffirmed its commitment to community and celebration, making this year’s event one to remember.
