UPDATE: A golden retriever in Montreal has taken the internet by storm after a heartwarming yet hilarious incident was captured on video. On October 7, Charlie was eagerly anticipating a walk with his owner, Lauren Lieberman, only to be met with an unexpected twist that left viewers in stitches.
In the viral TikTok clip, which has amassed over 12.9 million views, Charlie joyfully exits the elevator and races toward the double doors, oblivious to the surprise awaiting him outside. As Lieberman enthusiastically tells him, “You’re so excited to go for a walk!” the golden retriever’s excitement quickly shifts to confusion when he spots a purple mobile grooming van from Mobispaw parked outside.
The moment Charlie realizes he is not going for a walk but is instead being led to a grooming session, he freezes in disbelief. Lieberman, attempting to coax him along, finds Charlie unwilling to budge, showcasing a comedic display of resistance as he lies flat on the ground.
“Honestly, when I used to take him to a brick-and-mortar groomer, it was much worse,” Lieberman explained to Newsweek. “But because this is a mobile groomer and they come right outside the house, he throws a little fit once he sees the van, but then he goes in and he’s so happy.”
The clip highlights Charlie’s dramatic shift in demeanor, sparking laughter among viewers. One commenter humorously noted, “Cut the cameras,” while another added, “When they refuse to move it’s like they suddenly become twice as heavy and suck themselves to the ground.”
As the grooming staff, including a friendly employee named Marissa, attempts to reassure Charlie, he eventually warms up to the situation, receiving cuddles before being lifted into the van. Lieberman captioned the video: “POV: Your golden retriever couldn’t wait for his walk … until the biggest betrayal was waiting at the door.”
Despite the initial resistance, Charlie’s grooming experience turns out to be positive. Lieberman later shared an update showing Charlie happily getting groomed, even giving his paw for nail clipping, and finishing up with a cozy nap on the couch.
“He loves Mobispaw and loves the groomer even more,” Lieberman stated. “I think most dogs are just scared of the groomer because of the loud noises that the dryer makes.”
This incident not only showcases Charlie’s entertaining personality but also sheds light on the emotional bond between pets and their owners. As Charlie’s story continues to resonate, it serves as a reminder of the joys and challenges of pet ownership.
For those interested in helping their dogs adjust to grooming, experts from the American Kennel Club suggest familiarizing pets with being touched in various areas and introducing grooming tools gradually.
