International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) will convene its 33rd World Congress from October 23 to 25, 2025, in Berlin, Germany. This event promises to showcase innovative surgical and non-surgical therapies aimed at addressing various forms of hair loss. The congress is fully booked, highlighting the growing interest in effective solutions for the millions affected by hair loss worldwide.

This year’s congress theme, “Unity,” reflects the mission of bringing together leading experts in hair restoration to share knowledge and advancements. The event is expected to attract over 800 physicians and surgical assistants, all dedicated to enhancing their expertise in the field. A significant milestone is the introduction of a new section called Masterclasses, which will allow speakers to present their topics more deeply, incorporating interactive elements such as videos and audience participation.

According to Dr. Sam Lam, Program Chair, the record number of abstract submissions indicates an unmatched scientific program focused on advanced education in hair restoration. He stated, “The sheer number of abstract submissions we received for this meeting has shattered records, contributing to an unmatched scientific program dedicated to advanced surgical and non-surgical education unlike anything else in the field of hair restoration.”

Dr. Ricardo Mejia, President of ISHRS, emphasized the importance of inclusivity at the congress. For the first time, the event will utilize AI-based language translation for over 60 languages. This initiative aims to ensure that participants from diverse linguistic backgrounds can fully engage in the educational experience. Dr. Mejia remarked, “As an international society along with 25 Global Council member societies from all over the world, it is important for us to be all-inclusive with the various languages from our international members.”

The schedule includes presentations from renowned speakers such as Dr. Leslie Castelo-Soccio, who will discuss the “Microbiome in Hair Restoration,” and Dr. David Saceda, who will address “Management of Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia.” Other topics include advances in topical treatments and the management of challenging cases.

The congress will also delve into pressing issues within the field of hair restoration. A few highlighted topics include:

– The role of stem cells in prolonging the anagen phase and enhancing hair follicle growth.
– Research on sublingual minoxidil and its effects on hair follicle miniaturization.
– The relationship between nutrition and hair loss.

Dr. Mejia noted the rising demand for hair loss treatments, stating, “With demand for the treatment of hair loss at an all-time high among men and women, the ISHRS is ready to meet this moment with the highest caliber educational offerings.”
