RAVENNA, Ohio — Glenville showcased a powerful performance in the OHSAA Division IV regional football finals, defeating Perry 35-7 on November 21, 2025. The game took place at Portage Community Bank Stadium, where Glenville’s dominant defense stifled Perry’s offense after a brief spark from the Pirates.

Perry’s only touchdown came from a remarkable 94-yard kickoff return by Traxton Richards in the second quarter, putting the Pirates on the scoreboard. This moment marked the highlight of the game for Perry, which struggled to maintain offensive momentum throughout. The Pirates finished the game with just 68 rushing yards and 61 passing yards, ultimately falling to a Glenville team that has now eliminated them for the second consecutive year.

Glenville, the Tarblooders, improved to 10-3 with this victory, having also defeated Perry in a close overtime match last year. In that contest, Glenville won 12-6 thanks to a late touchdown run by C.J. Newell. This time, Newell was instrumental in the first half, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 38 yards on eight attempts.

The Tarblooders showcased a well-rounded offensive attack, with Romell Phillips contributing 62 yards on eight rushes and Da’Von McDougle adding 59 yards on six carries. Quarterback Arvell Nelson completed 8 of 16 passes for 114 yards, throwing touchdown passes to Joseph Saffold and Pauly Sadler. Saffold led the receiving corps with 77 yards on five receptions, while Sadler added 37 yards on three catches.

Glenville’s defense, led by Ohio State commit Cincere Johnson, was a significant factor in the game. Johnson recorded seven tackles, including one sack and a tackle for loss, demonstrating his impact on the field.

As the Tarblooders prepare for the state semifinals, they will face Gnadenhutten Indian Valley, the defending state champion with a perfect record of 12-0. This matchup promises to be an exciting challenge for Glenville as they continue their quest for a state title.
