The Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology Conference will return on November 1, 2024, marking its 25th anniversary. Hosted by the Innovative Technology Action Group (ITAG), part of the Chester County Economic Development Council, the event will take place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free conference aims to provide hands-on experiences in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and connect young girls with industry role models.

Launched in 2001 to combat the underrepresentation of women in technology, GETT has evolved significantly over the years. According to a press release, the conference has become a vital platform for inspiring girls to consider careers in STEM fields. “The World Economic Forum announced earlier this year that women make up just 28 percent of the global STEM workforce. GETT is a practical way to introduce girls to STEM fields in a fun, engaging half-day experience,” stated Daisy Adams, GETT chairwoman and senior director of Digital Operations and NOC at Bentley Systems.

This year’s celebration will include over 100 hands-on STEM activities, covering diverse fields such as computer science, engineering, coding, robotics, healthcare, environmental science, culinary arts, and broadcasting. The comprehensive approach aims to provide participants with a broad understanding of various STEM careers.

“Through GETT and our ITAG program, we’re breaking down barriers by directly connecting girls in our region with companies and their female STEM leaders across diverse roles — from software development to broadcasting to health sciences,” said Marianne Stack, ITAG project director at the Chester County Economic Development Council. She emphasized that interactions with successful women in STEM significantly transform students’ perspectives, helping them envision themselves as future innovators in these fields.

Initially, GETT focused primarily on computer and IT fields when it was established in Chester County. Over the years, it has broadened its reach, attracting participants from across Southeastern Pennsylvania. The program now includes various experiences throughout the year, allowing for continuous engagement beyond the annual conference.
