As flu season approaches, residents of the Lehigh Valley are encouraged to get their flu shots to minimize the risk of infection and protect those around them. Flu shots are available for everyone aged six months and older, and this year’s vaccines are expected to be effective against the circulating strains in the United States during the upcoming season.

Flu Shot Clinics and Availability

Lehigh Valley Health Network will offer free annual flu shot clinics on October 11 and October 12, 2023. The first clinic will be held from 09:00 to 15:00 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hecktown Oaks, located at 3780 Hecktown Road, Lower Nazareth Township. The second clinic will take place at the Integrated Health Campus, 240 Cetronia Road, South Whitehall Township, on the following day during the same hours. Individuals attending either event are required to complete a consent form and register online at LVHN.org/flushot. To facilitate the vaccination process, it is recommended that attendees wear loose-fitting clothing, allowing for easy access to the arm or leg for children under two years old.

The Allentown Health Bureau will also begin its series of free flu shot clinics starting September 26, 2023. These will occur from 13:30 to 15:30 at Alliance Hall, 245 N. 6th Street in Allentown. Clinics will continue every Friday at the same time and location throughout the flu season.

Additionally, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office will host a one-day free flu shot clinic on October 16, 2023, from 14:00 to 18:00 at the Lehigh County Forensic Center, 4350 Broadway, Allentown. This event also includes tours of the forensic center along with hot dogs and light refreshments for attendees.

Other Options for Vaccination

For those who prefer to receive their flu shots through other means, St. Luke’s University Health Network does not conduct clinics but recommends scheduling vaccinations with family doctors, pharmacies, or other vaccine providers. Major pharmacy chains such as CVS and Walgreens also offer flu shots, along with grocery store pharmacies like Weis and Giant. Most insurance plans cover these vaccinations without a copayment, and both pharmacy chains allow for walk-ins or advance scheduling via their respective websites.

As the flu season approaches, residents are urged to take advantage of these opportunities to protect themselves and their communities. The availability of multiple clinics and pharmacy options ensures that everyone has access to this important health measure.
