The film Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins has expanded its availability by launching on Hulu, adding to its presence on other platforms like Netflix and Paramount+. Despite its initial release in theaters and a global box office total of just $40 million against a reported budget of $88 million, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are actively working to revitalize the G.I. Joe franchise.

The addition of Hulu as a streaming option allows more viewers to access the film, potentially increasing interest in the wider franchise. This move aligns with the studio’s strategy to build momentum for upcoming projects, particularly the anticipated crossover between G.I. Joe and the Transformers franchise, which was teased in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. The latter film achieved moderate success, grossing $441.65 million worldwide.

Initially released in theaters in July 2021, Snake Eyes has been available on Netflix since October 2022 and on Paramount+ since September 2021. Its critical reception has been less favorable, as evidenced by its 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film features Henry Golding in the title role, marking an effort to reboot the franchise after previous entries.

Prior to Snake Eyes, the G.I. Joe franchise included two live-action films: G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013). While the first installment garnered a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it performed well at the box office, amassing $302.46 million against a budget of $175 million. The sequel, directed by Jon M. Chu, fared slightly better in terms of revenue, earning $375.7 million worldwide on a budget of $130 million, although it received a 29% rating from critics.

The next phase of the franchise aims to explore the crossover potential further. Although Henry Golding has expressed interest in returning for future projects, no confirmation has been made regarding his involvement in the upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover. Currently, Paramount and Hasbro have not officially announced a director for the crossover, but it is expected to be scripted by Derek Connolly, with Chris Hemsworth already attached to the project.

As the franchise continues to navigate its challenges, the addition of Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins to streaming platforms may serve as a pivotal move in reigniting audience interest. The film is now available for streaming on Hulu, alongside its previous releases on Netflix and Paramount+.
