URGENT UPDATE: Massachusetts residents face significant freeze, frost, and flood warnings as the coldest air of the season sweeps in overnight. The National Weather Service has confirmed that temperatures will plunge, prompting residents to take immediate precautions.

Starting at 11 p.m. on October 26, 2023, a freeze warning will impact communities across Berkshire, Bristol, and Hampden Counties, as well as eastern Hampshire, western Essex, southern Worcester, and much of Middlesex, Plymouth, and Norfolk Counties—excluding coastal areas. Subfreezing temperatures as low as 25 degrees are expected, leading to widespread frost throughout the state.

Coastal regions, including Cape Cod and Nantucket, may avoid frost but should remain vigilant. The cold snap is predicted to reach its lowest point shortly before 7 a.m. on October 27, when residents can expect the most severe conditions.

The frost advisory will also take effect for areas along the coast, including parts of Plymouth, Norfolk, Essex, and Suffolk Counties, along with Martha’s Vineyard. Temperatures in these areas could drop to as low as 33 degrees. The National Weather Service urges residents to protect sensitive vegetation and crops to prevent damage from the cold.

As temperatures rise, Friday will see a high of around the low 60s under sunny skies, but overnight lows will still dip into the low 40s and upper 30s. The following day, Saturday, is expected to warm up further, reaching the mid 60s with mostly sunny conditions, while Saturday night temperatures will linger in the low 50s and upper 40s.

Residents should also prepare for rain, as showers are forecasted to begin after midnight on Sunday, extending through Monday. This wet weather will coincide with highs in the low 60s and upper 50s, while overnight lows will fall into the upper 50s and low 40s.

Moreover, a coastal flood watch is set to be enacted beginning Sunday morning and will remain in effect until late Monday night. This could pose risks for coastal communities, prompting additional precautions.
